4b: Maintaining Accurate Records- Gradebook
This artifact is a snapshot of my gradebook from my 7th period General Social Studies class. Each assignment name is short-handed at the top of each column, along with the date and possible points to earn. My gradebook is colorful, but not for aesthetic reasons.
The highlighter is used to signify that the assignment is missing and each color tells me how important that assignment is for them to turn in (which one to focus on first). For example, the Quiz is more important to make up than the Timeline and should be done first. Also, the diagonal slashes across each box signifies that the student was absent that day and if a missing assignment is marked from a day that the student was absent it tells me that I should check up on that student to make sure they aware of the assignment and that they understand how to complete it. This is the most effective way that I have found to maintain accurate records. |
4c: Communicating with Families- Parent Teacher Reflection
|
I was fortunate enough to participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences in the fall of 2017. It was during my middle school placement and as such was much different than my experience with elementary conferences. While both levels of conferences were student-led, the middle school's conferences were fascinating because students have access to their grades on a weekly basis and it was interesting hearing how students explained the grades that they had earned to their parents.
It was also a great experience because I got to meet parents that I had previously no contact with, while also putting a face to a name to parents who I had only electronic correspondence with. |
4e: Growing and Developing Professionally- VMS Building Professional Development
|
During my middle school placement I was able to participate in both building and district-wide professional development. This artifact comes from one of these building PD sessions that I participated in during November of 2017. This PD session was with the entire Social Studies department at VMS and was focused on how we should tackle controversial topics in our classrooms. This was especially prudent in the wake of the 2016 election year.
